Porto.Bus is an Android app that shows the estimated waiting time for every bus passing by a given stop within the city's public transportation network.

The Challenge

Waiting for the bus sucks. That's why some public transportation companies create apps to help their users know the timetables of their vehicles. Although their intention is good they often fail to deliver a good user experience due to lack of investment in quality design and development.

The struggle is real with bus riders in the city of Porto. This app was born with the goal of helping them out.

My Approach

In a project that depends so heavily on very limited service providers in order to work, I imposed to myself a few requirements: the user flow should be as simple as possible, it should take the most out of the existing resources and it should be familiar to users that already use similar apps.

That familiarity is not only functional but also aesthetic as some design elements resemble the branding of the city itself (like the blue color and the typeface on the logo).

By replicating a familiar user journey and design elements, the learning curve for users is minimized and using the app will hopefully make them feel at home.
